WWRE #009: Coyotes, with Chris Mowry
Whether you've spotted their stealthy presence during a quiet neighborhood walk, heard tall tales of their wily ways, or paused at the yip-yip-yipping from a pack, you're aware that coyotes are a surprising but not uncommon Atlanta resident.
Dr. Chris Mowry, a Professor of Biology at Berry College, has been conducting research on coyotes since 2002. He co-founded The Atlanta Coyote Project, which consists of scientists devoted to learning more about coyotes living within the metro Atlanta area. Whether you're captivated, concerned, or just plain curious when it comes to coyotes, Atlanta Coyote Project strives to be a relevant and credible source of information and to provide strategies for peaceful human-coyote coexistence. Join us, Thursday December 12th at 5:00pm.
Seeking Future Experts
Heading into 2025, we’re looking for more experts to lead walks in and around Reynoldstown! Birds, geology, local wildlife and habitats, folklore and folkways, infrastructure, entomology, zoning and code, dendrology, and hydrology are just a few of the topics we hope to cover.
As a reminder, here’s the ground we’ve covered so far (pun fully intended): the built environment, the natural world, trains, placemaking and parks, graffiti and the Krog Street Tunnel, foraging, 142 Stovall, transportation, and (shortly) coyotes.
If you’re knowledgeable and enthusiastic about, well, pretty much anything we can walk to, we’d love to hear from you. Or, if there’s a subject you want to know more about, let us know! We’re always looking for ideas.
Drop us a note, here.
Museum of Reynoldstown (MoR)
At the corner of Kenyon and Wylie – 912 Wylie Street – stands the Isaiah P. Reynolds Building, a brick icon at the heart of Reynoldstown. Soon, it will house The Museum of Reynoldstown: Atlanta’s newest and smallest cultural treasure. Over the next five years, we’ll host twenty exhibitions, each a testament to the soul of Reynoldstown and the Urban American South. Together, we’ll preserve the stories that make this place extraordinary.
As the year ends, we invite you to help make this vision a reality. We’re raising $100,000 to restore, build, and light up this space. Contributions are tax-deductible – shoutout to the Reynoldstown Rangers’ fiscal sponsor, Flux Projects! – and will shape the stories we preserve for years to come.
Celebrate community. Honor history. Build the future.
